Public Works Foreman: Robert Milnes
The Shenango Township Public Works Department has five full-time employees, two part-time employees and a seasonal staff. The Department provides the community with road maintenance and repairs. They are also responsible for storm sewer and drainage work as well as snow and ice removal, street signs, equipment and vehicle maintenance. The township has 67 miles of township-maintained roads.
Our road crew makes every effort to keep the roads cleared during inclement weather. Main arteries and roads linking neighborhoods to main roads have plowing priority; housing developments are next. Because cul-de-sacs in a housing plan are not thruways to the majority of motorists or school students within a development, customarily they are given last priority. The Public Works Department currently has six dump trucks with snow plows, two utility work trucks, one asphalt paver, two asphalt rollers, one excavator, one sewer maintenance truck, one back hoe, one road grader, one front end loader, one street sweeper and assorted other equipment to maintain roadways, right of ways and parks.
The following is a list of roads that are NOT maintained by Shenango Township:
- Ellwood Road (Route 65)
- Route 422
- Route 388
- Bryson Mill Road
- Union Valley Road
- Savannah Road (from Pennsylvania Ave. to Fletcher Hill Rd.)
- Fletcher Hill Road (from Savannah Rd. to Turkey Hill Rd.)
- Turkey Hill Road
- Harmony Baptist Road
- Center Church Road
- Frew Mill Road
PennDOT should be contacted at 724-656-3104 for questions or complaints.
When the snowflakes start flying, please keep in mind a few dos & don’ts:
- Do keep access to your mailbox cleared for postal service; this is the responsibility of the resident.
- Do not shovel snow onto the road.
- Try not to park on the street during snow removal time.
A truck with a raised plow does not necessarily mean your area has been completed; they may be returning to the garage for fuel, additional materials, assisting in an emergency, etc. The state and county are responsible for state and county roads.
Private roads and private lanes are not the township’s responsibility. If you see a township road condition that needs attention, please call the township road crew at 724-658-4460 ext. 106.
